The DC Universe movies of late have been a war of attrition for Superhero fans everywhere. The fairest way to describe the efforts so far would be “polarising”, but the reveal of the “Wonder Woman” gave hope for a change on the horizon. But can the tide really be turned?
Some of you may remember that 2017 didn’t quite start off all that well, and the release that summarised all of the gloom was this slice of baffling imagery only known as “Monster Trucks”. Now that it has hit home release to the sound of no fanfare whatsoever, I can no longer ignore it. But… is there a surprise result on the table ?
There’s still a few to catch up on from last Oscar season (I’m still waiting for Moonlight feverishly), but with the home release of “Manchester by the Sea” I can at least scratch this one off of the list. And was this incredibly real and harsh story worth the long wait?
It’s been a hell of a long time since my local rental source offered a new release on Blu Ray (probably since Suicide Squad), and in hindsight it seems a bit of a pity that it turned out to be “Passengers”. On the face it may seem like an interesting little Sci Fi / Romantic Drama, but it hides a terrible, terrible secret. So get yourselves ready, and yes, some spoilers ahead on this one!
It’s that time once again for Director Ridley Scott to return to the Alien universe, but things between him and the fans aren’t all that rosy after “Prometheus”. Changes were promised as well as attempting to return to the original and recapture that classic terror in space. So did this work out?
The script pitch of raunchy comedies based on characters in a mid-ish life crisis getting into wacky situations shows no signs of running out of gas, with “Mike and Dave need Wedding Dates” being the latest effort to enter home release. It did well in the box office which goes as far as to show that there’s still plenty of appetite for them from audiences, but what is fresh and new in this example?
